Salishan Resort has agreed to the following special nightly room rates for our group:

All room rates are based upon single or double occupancy and are quoted exclusive of applicable state and local taxes, currently 10%. Each additional adult (e.g., 3rd person) is $20/night. There is also a $9.50 per room/per night resort service fee. This fee is in addition to the room rate and tax. Included in this fee are a number of amenities, including local telephone calls, an 18-hole course, golf greens fee discount, preferred tee times, fitness center, in-room Starbucks coffee, and private access to beach.

Salishan charges a 72-hour cancellation fee of $75 and an early check-out fee of $25. A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to hold a room reservation, and upon check-in, it will be applied to the first or final night of the reserved stay. The deposit is refundable if notice is received at least 5 days prior to arrival and a cancellation number is obtained.

TRAVEL
You will need to fly into Portland International Airport (PDX). Salishan Resort is located on the coast, about 3 miles south of Lincoln City. This is about a 3-hour drive from the airport. Cars or vans with drivers may be reserved, but they are very expensive. You may wish to rent a car to drive yourself for flexibility and sightseeing (driving directions).

NEW THIS YEAR:
There is a new airline that is flying from Portland to Newport, SeaPort Airlines. They fly 2 round-trips a day:

Mon-Fri: depart PDX 11:15am & 7:15pm, arrive Newport 11:55am & 7:55pm
Sat-Sun: depart PDX 12:30pm & 7:15pm, arrive Newport 1:10pm & 7:55pm

The cost currently with 21-day advance booking is $105.20 round-trip. The planes (Pilatus PC-12 aircraft) seat 9 people and are "weight-conscious," so they will ask you your weight. You are limited to 35 lbs of baggage.

Newport Municipal Airport is about 25 miles south of Salishan on Hwy. 1, about a 35-40 minutes drive. More about taxis &/or possible shuttles on this page soon.

AIRPORT BUS
The Symposium will organize one bus that will leave the Portland airport at 2:00pm Thursday afternoon (arriving around 5:00pm). The bus will leave Salishan to return to the Portland airport on Monday, departing Salishan at 9am and arriving at the airport around noon. The cost of a bus ticket is $40 one-way or $75 round-trip. You may reserve and pay for your bus ticket(s) online.

BEFORE AND AFTER THE MEETING
It may be more convenient for you to spend the nights of Oct. 7 and/or Oct. 12 in Portland. Many Portland hotels offer special OHSU rates. Please be sure to mention your affiliation with OHSU when making inquiries. There is light-rail from the airport to downtown Portland (MAX Red Line), in addition to the usual taxi's and hotel shuttles, etc.

WEATHER
The weather at the Oregon coast during October is pleasant but cool (average high 61°F/16°C, average low 45°F/7°C), and it will probably rain some (average 5" rain in the month of October). We recommend you bring a light jacket for days and something warm for evenings, as well as rain gear just in case. If you plan to come on the hike, be sure to bring suitable hiking shoes and outer gear.
